Introduction of Gamma Aminobutyric Acid-GABA

Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (GABA), also known as 4-aminobutyric acid and aminobutyric acid, is a non-protein active amino acid naturally present in the human body. It is an important inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system of mammals. About 30% of central nervous synapses use GABA as a transmitter. It plays an important role in the human cerebral cortex, hippocampus, thalamus, basal ganglia and cerebellum. It has extremely important physiological functions. It can improve brain function, improve sleep, soothe emotions, beautify and moisturize the skin, and delay brain aging.
The thermal stability of GABA is relatively poor. After being treated at 100℃ for 20 minutes, the content of GABA drops by as much as 59.2%, which greatly limits the application of GABA in the food field. HiHealth uses microbial fermentation combined with embedding technology to prepare GABA, which makes it have better thermal stability and expands the application of GABA in beverages, soft candies and other dosage forms.

Functions of Gamma Aminobutyric Acid-GABA

Figure 1 and Figure 2: EEG test results. Values are the mean±SD of the changes in sleep latency (A)and total non-REM sleep time (E)
Figure 3: The VAS questionnaire and PSQI results. Values are the mean±SD of the changes in VAS value with respect to sleep satisfaction, feelings upon awakening, ease of falling asleep (A)
γ-aminobutyric acid(GABA) significantly shortened sleep latency and increased the total non-rapid eye movement (non-REM) sleep time. Questionnaires showed that subjects receiving GABA realized its effects on sleep.
2.Relieve anxiety
 Acid-GABA (4)
GABA significantly increases alpha waves and decreases beta waves compared to water or L-theanine. These findings denote that GABA not only induces relaxation but also reduces anxiet.
3.Reduce psychological pressure

From heart rate variability(HRV), those taking γ-aminobutyric acid(GABA) chocolate made a quick recovery to the normal state from the stressful state. The chromogranin A(CgA) value after the task in those taking GABA chocolate did not increased in comparison with that before ingestion. From these results, GABA chocolate was considered to have a psychological stress-reducing effect.
4.Weight management
 Acid-GABA (7)
Supplementing with GABA can reduce weight gain and fat accumulation in mice, and has significant anti obesity properties.
5.Relieve central nervous system brain diseases

Plasma γ -aminobutyric acid(GABA) was positively correlated with depression and apathy scores on the Neuropsychiatric Inventory and negatively correlated with age.The final stages of Alzheimer’s disease are associated with GABAergic change.
6.Reduce blood sugar

Effects of GABA-rich sprouted adzuki beans on serum markers of glucose metabolism in mice with T2DM. The values represent the mean ± SEM (n ≥ 5); (A) FBG; (B) INS. Values with different symbols differ substantially (p < 0.05) from each other.
A high dietary intake of GABA-rich sprouted adzuki beans significantly reduced serum levels of FBG.  γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) had a preventive effect on glycolipid metabolism  in mice with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
